Cecilia Varela (Carrasco), 87, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2025.

Born and raised in Fabens, Texas, Cecilia grew up with a love for family, faith, and sports. She proudly played basketball for her high school team, the Wildcats, before moving to Los Angeles at the age of 19, where she built a life rooted in love, community, and dedication.

Cecilia was a devoted mother to her three children, Robert, Isabel, and Victor, and a loving grandmother to Salvador, Mario, Jessie, Bobby, and Olivia. She was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren — Johnathan, Mia, James, Sabian, Gabriel, Alexa, Bella and Angel — who brought her endless joy.

She had a lifelong passion for sports and was a proud fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Lakers. Beyond sports, Cecilia cherished music and dancing, and she was a faithful member of the Catholic Church, where she found strength, guidance, and community throughout her life.

Cecilia will be remembered for her warm spirit, devotion to her family, and her zest for life. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and cherished memories that will forever live in the hearts of those who knew her.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 02, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with recitation of the rosary at 7:00 p.m. at San Jose Funeral Home-East, 10950 Pellicano Dr., 79935 (915) 590-8700. Funeral mass will be Friday, September 03, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Santo Niño de Atocha Catholic Church., 210 S. Clark Dr., 79905. Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery, 401 S. Zaragoza Rd, 79907.
