Graciela Mar Favela

  DOB – June 1, 1941; DOD – June 5, 2026

Graciela Mar Favela was born in Aquiles Serdan, Chihuahua, Mexico on June 1, 1941 to Raul Mar and Francisca Delgado. She entered the Lord’s Kingdom on June 5, 2026, just 4 days after her 85th birthday, where she was greeted by her husband and grandson, Bobby.  She lived many years in Ciudad Juarez, where she and Samuel H. Favela+ married on January 8, 1961 in Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua. They moved to El Paso, Texas where they made their home and raised their family, eventually earning their U.S. citizenship.

Sam, her husband, became a Master Plumber and started his own successful company who she wholeheartedly supported. Graciela and Sam were married for 57 years, until his death. Chela as she was so fondly referred to, enjoyed her role as a loving wife and mother, tending to their home and children. She was an excellent seamstress, master crocheter and cook. She had three children, four grandchildren and one great grandchild: Norma Favela Barceleau (Jaime), Samuel Favela, Jr, (Terry), and Vivian Gomez (Ernesto), and four grandchildren: Robert Andrew Phoenix+, Samantha Favela, Marco Macias (Evelyn) and Diego Favela; and one great grandchild, Hailey Sofia Macias. She is preceded in death by her husband, Sam, April 18, 2018 and her first born grandchild, SPC Robert Andrew Phoenix, January 19, 2020.

They called her Mamá, he was Papo, together they loved hosting their children, grandchildren, family, and close friends for family get-togethers, all the major holidays and sporting events. Mamá’s cooking was second to none and together they would prepare lavish home cooked meals, she enjoyed watching her family eat and talk and laugh. Papo was the Grill Master who would grill the meat and Mamá would prepare all the side dishes. They were very generous, always giving the grandchildren cash gifts and always being there for their children when needed. Often, Papo would delight everyone with a song or two with his wonderful voice He loved to serenade his lovely bride. They enjoyed traveling and seeing new lands like Hawaii, Egypt, Turkey and the Dominican Republic to name a few, but their favorite destinations included stops in the casinos. Together, they were an inseparable team, whenever Papo wanted to wine and dine a prospective client he would take them home for some delicious chile colorado, chiles rellenos and guesitos a few of Mamá’s specialties that would always seal the business contracts.

Graciela and Sam were the kindest and most humble couple you had ever met. They were two souls in one. But after Papo passed away Chela, or Güera as he loved to call her, began a slow descent into Dementia. As her mind deteriorated so did her physical agility. Her mind began to falter but her general physical health remained good for many years. In the end, her heart gave out with her children and grandchildren at her bedside. She was loving, selfless and gave her all to her children and grandchildren who will forever love her and miss her. 

Memorial services will be held at San Jose Funeral Home at 10950 Pellicano Dr., viewing is from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the rosary at 6:00 PM. The funeral mass will be at 12:00 noon at San Antonio de Padua Church at 503 Hunter Dr. After the mass there will be a funeral procession to Evergreen Cemetery East at 12400 Montana at 1:30 PM.
