Maria M. De Chavez

Maria Chavez, 82, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and held in God’s grace.

Born on January 6, 1944, Maria lived a life marked by strength and faith. She dedicated herself wholeheartedly to raising her sons, meeting life’s challenges with courage and determination. She was a devoted mother to Fernando Chavez and Samuel Chavez. The loss of her beloved son Samuel in 1998 was a sorrow she carried with grace and faith.

Maria faithfully served the Socorro Independent School District for over 30 years as a cafeteria employee, caring for generations of students in her community.

Reserved by nature, she found her greatest joy in time spent with her family — her son Fernando, daughter-in-law Ericka Chavez, granddaughters Andrea Ajao, Bianca Valenzuela, and Alexandra Chavez, grandsons-in-law Omololu Ajao and Alejandro Valenzuela, and her cherished great-grandchildren: Elijah Ajao, Samuel Ajao, Ezra Ajao, Adalia Valenzuela, Lilia Valenzuela and Micah Ajao. She especially enjoyed simple gatherings and her son’s grilling. She is also survived by her siblings, Dolores Morales and Petra Morales.



Maria leaves behind a legacy of faith, perseverance and unconditional love. We find comfort in knowing she is reunited with her beloved son Samuel and resting in the peace of the Lord.
