It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our dearly beloved wife and mother, Bertha Evelia Vargas on May 2, 2025. She is preceded in death by her father Jose Trinidad Provencio, mother Ana Pineda Provencio and brother Jose Humberto Provencio.
She graduated high school early at the age of 16 and attended Texas Western College of Mines (UTEP), studying Biological Sciences, where she met her husband of over 59 years. As newlyweds, they moved to Houston, TX where she worked at M.D. Anderson Medical Center in the lab. A few years later, they moved back to El Paso where they raised their three daughters. She later returned to UTEP to receive a Masters in Education. She dedicated her teaching career to educating local high school students in the areas of Chemistry and Biology in the El Paso, Gadsden and Canutillo Independent School Districts for over 20 years.
She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, sister-in-law, aunt and grandmother. She was an avid fan of Hispanic literary works, travel and baking her famous "cuernito" cookies. She is survived by her loving husband Francisco A. Vargas, daughters Laura Intebi (Charlie), Monica Vargas-Mahar (Keith) and Sandra "Nena" Vargas (Sarah) and four grandsons: Max and Paco Intebi and Alec and Vincent Mahar.
A special thank you to Vicenta Madrid for her care, assistances and coordination of the loving and gentle care of Bertha over the last few months of her life.
