Helen M. Porras

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Helen Porras (née Muñoz), who left this world on Monday October 13, 2025, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's, she was 76. Helen was born in El Paso, TX on January 6, 1949, to the late Pedro A. Muñoz and Margarita R. (nee Ramirez) Muñoz.
Helen's legacy lives on through her devoted family. She is survived by her son, Adrian Porras, and his wife Cathy of Austin, TX, her daughter, Elizabeth Marie Best, and her husband Andre of Phoenix, AZ and her cherished grandchildren, Addison and Rowan. Helen also leaves behind her loving siblings Alicia Meier (Jon) of Richmond, TX, Rose Muñoz Martinez (Joe) of San Antonio, TX and her brother Pete Muñoz (Viola) of Chula Vista, CA. She was preceded in death by her ex-husband and longtime friend Adrian Porras. Her extended family includes numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews, all of whom held a special place in her heart. She will forever be everyone’s Nina.
Helen's life was filled with love and laughter, and she had a special fondness for her dogs over the years, including her beloved Pichu. Her passion for teaching and aiding special needs children was evident in the joy she brought to their lives over the years.
Helen's enthusiasm for life was contagious, especially when it came to her love for volleyball. If there was a net nearby, you could be sure Helen would rally everyone for a game. Or if Guiding Light was on the tv she was going to make you quiet down or get up to speed on the plot very quickly.
Family gatherings were a highlight for Helen, and she had a unique way of making every occasion memorable. Her tradition of calling on the children to unwrap gifts on Christmas Eve brought smiles and excitement to all.
Helen's warmth, kindness, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her family and friends will forever cherish the memories and the love she shared.
A rosary will be held for Helen on xxx with a mass on xxx at xxx.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to organizations supporting Alzheimer's research in Helen's name, such as the Alzheimer's Association.
All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend and share in honoring her remarkable life.
