Ignacio “Nacho” Fernandez, born July 29, 1941, in El Paso, Texas, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 18, 2026, at St. Giles Nursing Facility. In his final moments, he was surrounded by the love of his family and the gentle care of the staff and residents who had become like family to him. After a long and full life, he is reunited with his beloved wife, Olga, whom he has missed dearly since her passing in 1998.

          Nacho was the second child of Esperanza “Espi” Fernandez and Luis Fernandez. He grew up in a close-knit family and carried that warmth with him throughout his life. He is survived by his siblings Josefina F. Mendiola and Ruben Fernandez and is preceded in death by his brother Ramon Fernandez (2017).

          He leaves behind his children, Ignacio Fernandez Jr. and Sarah Fernandez,

  Visitation will be held on June 4, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at San Jose Funeral Home East, 10950 Pellicano Dr., El Paso, Texas 79935. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.

          A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on June 5, 2026, at San Antonio De Padua Catholic Church, 503 Hunter Drive, El Paso, Texas.

  Burial will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave., El Paso, Texas.
