Bertha Rodriguez Nazario, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2025, in El Paso, Texas, at the age of 87.
Born on May 13, 1936, in Salaices, Chihuahua, Mexico, Bertha was the cherished daughter of Vicente Rodríguez and Guadalupe Gutiérrez. In June of 1959, she married her devoted husband, Jose Antonio Nazario, with whom she shared a life rooted in faith, family, and service.
Together, they were pillars in the Movimiento Familiar Cristiano Católico/Encuentro Conyugal Católico in 1960 in San Francisco, California, a ministry that strengthened countless marriages and families. Bertha’s entrepreneurial spirit led her to open Bertha’s Beauty Salon in San Francisco in 1975, and later to establish Mi Casita Day Care in 1987 and Noah’s Nook in 2005, which is still in operation to this day. In 1977, she was instrumental in founding the Iglesia Católica in Salaices, Chihuahua, as well as pioneering St. Thomas Aquinas in El Paso, Texas, St. Mark Catholic Church in El Paso, Texas, and San Pedro de Jesus Maldonado in El Paso, Texas, also helped strengthen the Movimiento Familiar Cristiano Católico/Encuentro Conyugal Católico at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Houston, Texas, leaving a lasting spiritual legacy in her hometown.
Bertha’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She served as a church coordinator, retreat leader, pre-marital counselor, and tireless volunteer, always offering her compassion and encouragement. She was happiest surrounded by children—her own, her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren, and the many daycare children who held a special place in her heart. Her famous words, passed down through generations, remain a loving reminder of her devotion: “Fueron a Misa?”
Bertha is survived by her husband Jose Antonio Nazario & children: Marco A. Nazario, Vicente J. Nazario, MiguelAngel Nazario, and Anamaria Nazario; her grandchildren: Kristal Nazario & Family, Christopher Nazario & Family, Leonard Sosa & Family, Vicente J. Nazario Jr. & Family, Sara Nazario, Rosa Castanon & Family, Cristian Mayen & Family, Marco A. Nazario II & Family, Andrew Ceniceros, Hailey Ceniceros, Alex Mayen; and her 22 great-grandchildren, who will forever carry her love and example in their lives. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Jeremiah Nazario. Bertha is also remembered by her siblings: Soledad†, Fabian†, Manuela†, Margarita, Samuelito†, Gloria†, Vicente, and Samuel†.
