Juan Antonio “Chapulin” Olivares, Sr., 54, died on September 28, 2026, in El Paso, Texas.

He was born on February 12, 1972, in Denver, Colorado, and carried through life a deep commitment to work, family, and helping others in whatever way he could. Juan was an honest and hard-working man who was always doing something with his hands, trying to fix something, or finding a way to make things work. Even when he did not know how to do something at first, he kept at it until he figured it out.

Juan completed the eighth grade and later earned his GED. Much of what he knew, however, came through life experience. In his early years, he worked in his town in the fields, picking cotton. Later, he studied through Job Corps to become a welder and also trained to become a forest fire firefighter.

Although he did not pass the final test at that time because he could not read and write in English, he continued forward and built a life defined by determination and work. Over the years, he spent most of his working life in construction, landscaping, and welding, and also worked for a time as a mechanic.

Work was not just employment for Juan; it was one of the clearest expressions of who he was. He liked to work a lot and took pride in staying busy. He loved cutting trees, cleaning yards, building rock walls, fixing fences, and painting houses, along with many other hands-on tasks.

He was the kind of man who stayed active and looked for ways to improve, repair, and build. Those who knew him saw that he was always willing to go out of his way to help, and he often did so without hesitation.

Juan also valued time with his children and family. He loved watching movies and spending time with his kids and with those closest to him. He was a person who attracted many people and made many friends.

His honesty was a defining part of his character. He spoke plainly and directly, even when that honesty could come across strongly, and it was part of what made him memorable to those who knew him.

He is remembered by his brothers, Francisco Olivares, Ernesto Olivares, Paul E. Verduzco, and Guillermo D. Flores, Guillermo Eladin Flores; his sisters, Carolina Olivares, Cynthia Flores, Darcel A. Verduzco, and Olga Verduzco; his mother and father, Oralia Segura Martinez and Ernesto Olivares Nicacio; and his two sons, Juan Antonio Olivares Jr. and Mathew Unike Olivares, and his granddaughter Jelen and his wife Sonia Y Martinez

Juan Antonio “Chapulin” Olivares Sr. will be remembered for a life shaped by hard work, persistence, honesty, and a readiness to help others. His life’s path reflected effort, resilience, and devotion to the people who mattered to him.
