Julieta Duran Pedroza (July 3,1932 - September 19,2025), a lifelong El Pasoan and proud Bowie Bear, has answered our Lord’s call to heaven.
Mom was the youngest daughter of Enrique Duran and Consuelo Alvarez. She had four brothers -Paul(D), Hector(D), Guillermo(D), Alfonso and three sisters Olga(D), Guadalupe(D) and Amparo. She was devoted to her nephews Hector Duran Jr. and Richard Duran whom she helped raise as her own. Her nephews and nieces loved her and considered her their second mom.
Born with a weak heart was the start of this survivor’s life. The challenges that followed in life (the Great Depression, WW2) and growing up in the toughest neighborhood (El Segundo Barrio) resulted in her determination, strong will and just plain toughness. These traits, combined with a deadly aim with the chanclita, ensured that her family was “raised right”!
Her life centered on family and faith! Together with dad, Jose Isabel Pedroza (D), she raised nine children: Anna (Robert Chapin), Gilbert (Lucy), Joseph (Luz), Isabel (Rick Munoz), Peter (Gloria), Thomas (Priscilla), Martin (Irene), Mary (Michael Hickey) and Paul (Patty). Her legacy now extends to 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Deprived of an education when she was young, she highly valued it. Countless sacrifices were made for her children to attend Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parochial School, ensuring knowledge and faith were the foundation of their lives. She obtained her dream at 50 when she earned her GED. She modeled perseverance that you never quit! She was so proud of her family’s education and accomplishments!
From a weak heart at birth to the strongest heart full of love, Mom lived life for family – traveling to attend all the major events of kids, grand-kids and great grand-kids. Wherever she went, she never forgot her roots saying with pride: Soy del Segundo y de la Bowie.
We will miss her and hearing her off key voice singing Happy Birthday. We know that she is with God now, praying and watching over us. But don’t misbehave – she now has a golden chanclita.
