Eva Lee King lived a long and joyful life; she was 98 when she passed on September 7, 2025. One of ten siblings she grew up on a farm in Oklahoma during the great depression. She would help run the homestead; everyone had chores. Her favorite thing to do was to hide in a huge mulberry tree to read her favorite books; out of sight out of mind she would say. It was that same mulberry tree that her family would host potlucks and square dances under; back when neighbors were neighborly. She talked of her father parking 30 cars under that tree.
Eva Lee met the love of her life Hubert King and they moved to Mount Olive, North Carolina; what a change that was. Her husband worked at a truck dealership and for extra money Eva Lee participated in the tobacco harvest; bundling tobacco for the smokehouses. They had two children, Edna Joyce and James Edward. It was a wonderful life.
Eventually they moved to Beaufort NC when later they were blessed with a third child Glen Allen; who kept her on her toes. They bought a house on Ann Street one block from the water. Beaufort was a fishing village then and you could walk down to the water and watch the fishing boats come in with their catch of the day. Eva Lee had the prettiest garden in town. People would hang over the fence and talk a while; asking her which plants were what. She would can her fruits and vegetables making sure her family had food stored each year. The fishermen at the soup kitchen loved her hot jalapenos which reminded them of home. She enjoyed sewing and crafting; from lined wool suits to gorgeous blankets and some of the prettiest Christmas ornaments you've ever seen.
Eva Lees' passion was Christ. If you were in her presence for anytime at all she was telling you about her savior Jesus and making the introduction. She had a true love for people and always tried to help people down on their luck if possible. She taught Sunday school and hosted prayer meetings over the years. She was an active member in Aglow ministries.
She worked as a secretary for many different businesses over the years. Her final place of employment was at the store she and her husband built; King's Boat Builder Supply. She got together often with friends and family to share a meal and play games.
Eva Lee King was mother to three children, 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren so far, number 13 is on the way. She will be greatly missed but her wisdom and values will be passed on from generation to generation.
