Javier Jiménez was born on May 15, 1956, to an ecstatic mother Ernestina and hard-working
father Roberto on a beautiful day in El Paso, Texas at St. Joseph’s Maternity Hospital. As the
first born son in the household, Javier was Ernestina’s pride and joy.
A master storyteller with tales unlimited. A purveyor of spirits and slurpees. An aficionado of a
great pair of boots and a cowboy hat. A fierce and loyal protector. A heart of gold behind a
rough and tough façade.
A graduate of Riverside High School’s Class of 1974, Javier lent his hand in the construction of
the base of RHS’s beloved bronze statue Victor, the ranger who stands tall to welcome
everyone who enters the school.
Javier was a man of the road. Work may have hardened him, but the stories he would tell about
all his travels deserved to go down in history. His true love, Sarah the 1968 Peterbilt, kept him
hauling around the majority of the continental United States for decades. When Javier wasn’t
driving his big rig, you could be sure he was hitting the road on two wheels - ever the Harley
Davidson enthusiast.
A hands-on man from birth, there was nothing Javier couldn’t fix, couldn’t drive, and couldn’t do.
He was known to some as “Mechan” - and would freely give his time to help diagnose and
address any automotive issue thrown at him.
Javo. Jarvey. Uncle Javis. Uncle Slurpee. Bonehead. Mijo.
Javier is preceded in death by the patriarch of the family, his father Roberto. He leaves in his
untimely absence his mother Ernestina; sisters Susan (Coby) and Lily (Robert), brother Robert;
nieces Megan, Karina, Daniela, and Alison (goddaughter); countless cousins and beloved
friends.
Seventy years of life was truly not enough time with Javier. We all love him and will miss him,
his stories, his grumpiness, his charismatic nonchalance and - most of all - his love.
To honor Javier’s life and legacy, please join the family at San Jose Funeral Home East on July
13 for viewing from 4:00PM to 8:00PM with a remembrance rosary at 6:00PM. The funeral mass
will be held at St. Mark Catholic Church on July 14 at 12:00PM, with burial to follow at
Evergreen Cemetery East.
