Lorenzo C. Nevarez

Lorenzo C. “Lencho” Nevarez, 73, passed away on August 1, 2026, in El Paso, Texas. He was born on March 16, 1953, in Santa Rita, New Mexico, and grew up in Central El Paso before raising his own family in East El Paso.

Lorenzo graduated from Austin High School in 1971. In 1974, he began his military career with the United States Army and went on to dedicate 38 years of service to the Army National Guard, ultimately retiring as a Major. His commitment to leadership and continued education led him to complete the Command and General Staff Officer Course at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, in 2006.

Lorenzo later continued his education at Texas A&M University, where he earned a Master’s degree in Industrial Distribution. His dedication to education, discipline, leadership, and service remained an important part of his life and helped shape the values he carried with him throughout his career and into his family life.

To those who knew him, Lorenzo was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He was a provider and a man who believed deeply in family, hard work, education, discipline, and strong moral principles. He recognized the struggles of life and understood the importance of giving his children the values and foundation they needed to build lives of their own. His family was what he fought for, and his love and devotion to them were evident throughout his life.

Lorenzo shared his life with his beloved wife, Ana Maria Nevarez. Together, they raised their family and built a life centered around the values they held dear. Ana Maria preceded Lorenzo in death, and he now leaves behind the family they created together. Their love and the life they shared will remain a lasting part of their family’s story.

Lorenzo had a deep love for the outdoors and nature. Fishing was his passion, and he found joy in the beauty, peace, and freedom of the outdoors. In his younger years, he was an avid outdoorsman who spent countless days hunting and fishing throughout West Texas and the landscapes of New Mexico. His appreciation for nature was a reflection of the adventurous spirit that was such an important part of who he was.

Lorenzo also had a deep love for music, especially rock and roll. Elvis Presley held a special place in his heart, and music was another passion that brought him happiness throughout his life.

Lorenzo is survived by his children, Melissa Dianne Nevarez, Miguel Angel Nevarez, Roberto Ramon Nevarez, and Joseph Ignacio Nevarez; his grandchildren, Isaac Anthony Nevarez, Mercedes Nevarez, Adam Daniel Nevarez, Andrew Daniel Menchaca, Aiden Daniel Menchaca, Abel Daniel Menchaca, Vivian Moran, Brenda Bueno, Gia Yepez, and Emma Yepez; and his great-grandchildren, Ava Renee Nevarez, Cassidy Rose Nevarez, Lea Rae Nevarez, Piper Aileen Nevarez, Kian Menchaca, Ronin Atticus Nevarez, Sophia Lynn Menchaca, Lyla Diane Nevarez, Bloom Azalea Nevarez, Malakai Atlas Nevarez, Aiden Daniel Nevarez Jr., Jayden Moran, Penelope Moran, and Stella Moran.

He is also survived by his siblings, Guadalupe Anaya, Maria E. DeAnda, and Dora I. Nevarez-Gomez.

Lorenzo was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ana Maria Nevarez; his parents, Guadalupe Ramon Nevarez and Alta Gracia Nevarez; and his brothers, Ramon Victor Nevarez and Joel Nevarez.

Lorenzo C. “Lencho” Nevarez will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his loving children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and the many friends whose lives he touched with his kindness, strength, and love.

His legacy will live on through the family he loved, the values he taught, the country he served, the outdoors he cherished, and the countless memories he created throughout his 73 years of life.

Though he is no longer with us, the lessons he taught, the love he gave, and the life he built with Ana Maria will continue through the generations that follow.

May he rest in peace, reunited with his beloved wife, Ana Maria.

And as Lorenzo would always say with pride and a smile,

Interment: Ft. Bliss National Cemetery at 11:00 a.m.
