Adam Hajost

Adam Hajost passed peacefully at home on September 5^th surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sydney Hajost; children Adam (Julie), Stanley and Quinn (Peter) Krzykowski; 5 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Adam was born and raised in Detroit, MI and left to serve in the U.S. Navy before landing with Boeing Aircraft in New Orleans where he met and married Sydney. Work took them to Florida where he was part of the Apollo team that launched men to the moon, then a brief stint in Seattle, WA before a mass layoff led them to El Paso to stay with family. Shortly after arriving in the Sun City, Adam began a career with Dover Elevator Company where he spent the next 24 years as part of the IUEC Local 131 brotherhood constructing and servicing elevators and escalators in the West Texas and Southern New Mexico region. In 1977, the Hajost family moved to Clint, TX in the Lower Valley where they built a small farm and a successful pecan shelling business. After selling the farm in 2001, Adam and Sydney retired to Horizon City where he became a gym rat and cruised the town in his red Mustang. Adam was never one to rest on his laurels and was always “thinking” of the next deal or project. That work ethic was passed to his kids—he was extremely proud of their education and careers. It impossible to name all of the many friends and family that provided support in Adam’s later years, but special recognition goes out to his “Buddy” Al Chacon, caregiver Aida Alcala, and especially his platinum-winged angel of 60 years that never left his side, Sydney Hajost.

As many of you know, Adam was generous to those that went out of their way to help him or his family in a time of need. Over the last 12 months, Ms. Aida Alcala cooked breakfast, gave daily foot massages, walked dad down to the mailbox and playfully chastised “Mr. Adam” for sneaking cookies, but most importantly, gave Mom a much-needed break from the daily caretaking. Adam was extremely grateful and requested that in lieu of flowers, any gifts instead be donated to Aida and her family. You may do so via Sydney’s Venmo as seen below.
